CHAMBERS FORGES CLOSER LINKS WITH ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS

Chambers has agreed with the University of Oxford to sponsor one BCL student each academic year for the next 3 years. The sponsorship, to be known as “The Pump Court Tax Chambers Scholarship”, will be awarded by Oxford University scholarships committee. Giles Goodfellow QC, head of Chambers Pupillage Committee, said: “We have come to realise that the top students who are considering a career at the Bar do not necessarily give detailed consideration to Tax Law, which is academically stimulating and often leads to complex and high profile litigation involving many other areas of law. We hope that, by forging greater links with certain academic institutions, we can better educate students on life at the Tax Bar.

Senior Clerk, Nigel Jones, commented: “Recruitment of top-class junior tenants is a major priority for us. The work at the lower end of Chambers has seen very considerable growth in the past few years – a trend that we anticipate to continue well into the future. The demand is such that we expect to recruit at least one or two new tenants every year”.

In addition to the Oxford scholarship, Chambers is sponsoring academic prizes at both LLB and LLM levels at University College London.
